Exploring Africa
All our journeys are custom designed. Our professional guides hail from both east and southern Africa, and as a result we are able to offer safaris in much of Africa.
Many of our safaris are in Tanzania and Botswana. A Step Ahead founder and Wilderness Africa guide Justin Bell lived in Tanzania for 20 years and spent his early childhood there, before the family moved back to Kenya. Wilderness Africa guide Dave Christensen, from Zimbabwe, has guided safaris all over Africa, and especially in Tanzania, Botswana and Namibia.
Parts of northern Kenya have unique species of wildlife and very different desert-like scenery. Tanzania incorporates the Serengeti national park, famous for the great wildebeest migration; Ngorongoro Crater has some of the highest densities of big game anywhere on the planet and is one of the largest intact calderas in the world; and Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa.
Wilderness Africa guide Dave Christensen and some of our other guides come from southern Africa, and we offer safaris in this region, notably in Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Botswana is famous for the Okavango Delta and Namibia is known for its stunning desert scenery. Zimbabwe and Zambia are popular for walking safaris, especially in Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe and in the South Luangwa national park in Zambia.
We also organize safaris to see the gorillas and birdlife in Uganda and Rwanda, and we journey to the ancient cities of Ethiopia.
For more information on any of these areas visit the appropriate section using the map below. If you have a specific area of interest, ask us if we can organise it and accompany you. These are some of the activities that we offer: riding upon elephants, spending time with chimpanzees or gorillas, canoeing in the Zambezi, tracking rhinos, fishing for trout in highlands or tiger fish in rivers, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro….try us!
